Through Granny’s Eyes…

11-24am

Another attempt to try and do my blog on my cell phone. I am at the Ladies Christian home, sitting in the garden,  enjoying a spectacular wind free Cape Town winter’s day. Temperature is about 24C. Granny is eating pawpaw & enjoying the outdoors.  🙂 This is her view…

It is one week before her 89th birthday. She is wonderful…

She is patient with herself & all of us. She makes no murmur of complaint. Hardly able to speak,  she spends her time in quiet contemplation,  watching with amusement her fellow residents. Life has slowed for her. Time drifts by, defined by tea time, meals & bedtime. She is quiet & obedient.

I tell her a few things & we look at each other…staring for long moments into each other’s eyes, impressing love and blessing on one another. She moves slowly, bringing the fork to her chin with painstaking care,  edging the paw paw towards her mouth, reaching for it before it falls off! She savours the sweet taste & looks at me approvingly.  This is Granny’s slow existence. She is comfortable.  She is safe. She has people around her, warmth & comfort. She may even be content.

I wonder how it will be for me in 40 years time! God takes care. I need not worry. 🙂  Whatever comes my way, God gives grace.

Isaiah 41:13
For I hold you by your right hand–I, the LORD your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.

I can tell you one thing: if Granny knew 40 years ago, what she knows now, she would have worried less about the care she would need for these twilight years.

Now I must take her back up to her wing for lunch!

And then trundle home.

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
