Three Things I Have To Do Every Day

Of the three things that I have to do every day, there is one that keeps me the most grounded.  The three things are:

  1. Walking 10 000 steps
  2. Writing this blog
  3. Reading the Bible

While the 10 000 steps may keep me fit and writing the blog may keep me sharpening my writing skills, by far and away the most important activity is reading the Bible.

It keeps me grounded.

The one year Bible

Today I learned (again) it’s not about me or my words. In the sermon on the mount – words of Jesus,

Matthew 5:16

“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Jesus did NOT say, ‘that they may hear your good words” and He did not say, “and praise you!”

“….that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven.”

I stumble time and time again.

Let your walk talk more than your talk talks.

While I stumble time and time again, I don’t believe God wants us to live in a continuous haze of guilt. It’s easy to do that too.

I think He wants me to just do my best. To love unconditionally, accept one another’s differences and in seeing each other’s weaknesses and failures, to pray for one another instead of criticising each other.

I know I’ve got a long way to go.

Words certainly can get us into trouble.

Words come from the heart – what mouth speaks, the heart believes. Matthew records Jesus in Matthew 15:18

But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.

Best to train our minds to think good things. Dwell on what is good and kind and true.

We are far less likely to get into trouble when we do that.

Back to my three-point daily to-do list. Bible has been read and learned from. Blog is almost done and I’ve done about 1/4 of my 10 000 steps.

Of course, there’s also a whole lot of other things that happen in the day….like work! I’ve got to keep that going – we are going into another busy period, for which I am very appreciative! 🙂

And then there’s housework – laundry, cleaning, shopping.

The days slip by – that’s why we have to reach for those gifts that have eternal value – gems from the Bible – they are gifts that last forever.

And another eternal gift with massive, often understated benefits is prayer.

PRAY!

The consequences of prayer are far beyond our expectation and understanding. When we pray, an unseen chain of reaction begins.  Prayer is never wasted. God listens. God hears us. God captures our tears in a jar and will never abandon us.

Moments of eternal value. Add them to your day!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
