This is why Chapman’s Peak Drive is Closed

When you hear Chapman’s Peak Drive is closed to traffic, and you are in Cape Town, at the first available opportunity, go and walk on it. It is one of the top drives in the world with spectacular views from Hout Bay to Noordhoek. While it is closed to vehicular traffic, they take a bit of time to close it to pedestrians and then it’s often not all closed to those who want to walk it. And let me tell you, when you walk along Chapman’s Peak Drive you get a far greater view than when you drive. Park at the booms on the Noordhoek side and off you go….

Very soon you start seeing spectacular sea views of Noordhoek Beach…

And they just get better and better…

Riana and I on a rock…you can’t stop at this point when you are driving…

Around the next bend we saw the first signs of why Chapman’s Peak Drive is closed…there was something on the road…

And we soon found out the extent of the rockfall…

A few of the rocks were huge and they had broken the wall as they plunged down the mountain…

The netting has been stripped in preparation of repair. Looking up…

We continued towards the tunnel…

It’s so amazing to be able to walk through here with no worry of cars or buses…

We walked on a bit further before turning back.

You can walk all the way through to Hout Bay, but it is 9km. Next time, I would like to walk to Chappies Look out at the top. We didn’t go quite that far – we did a round trip of about 5.5km.

Such a wonderful walk on a lovely winters day.

#335 of my 1000 thanks is for the sunshine today. It warmed my hands and dried my washing.

Today was actually a really productive day. Apart from the walk this afternoon, I also did a load of washing and David and Mike serviced David’s car. I also fitted in a few hours of work.

That was great!

Isaiah 55:6

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near.

Such good advice!

These are the days.Keep the smile going!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
