The good news is that Mike and I had a wonderful 31st wedding anniversary. We reached the number of years of our street number!
We went to Harbour House Restaurant at Kalk Bay and enjoyed a three course meal – it was their winter special so the whole meal cost as much as the main course usually would! It was lovely.
But!
Towards the end of the meal, my cell phone rang and it was David. He had come round to our house to use the internet and while he was there, Morgan (tenant living in Granny’s cottage behind our house) called the internal phone. David answered. Morgan and her boyfriend had gone out for the afternoon and on their return they noticed the wind, so they thought, had knocked a few bottles off her bathroom window sill. They bought them in and thought nothing of it. They then left and went for a run. When they got back, they went to ‘map their run’ on Morgan’s computer….only to find the laptop missing. Yip. Yesterday afternoon, while Mike and I were home, someone had got over the corner of the back wall, climbed across the neighbour’s garage roof, dropped down into our garden, sussed out the cottage, pushed in the burglar bars of the tiny bathroom window, stolen her (old) laptop and her (new but useless-in-South Africa) American cell phone, found the charger for the laptop and exited the way he came. He or they used a couple of rocks to get up over the wall…
#384 of my 1000 thanks – Morgan wasn’t home and nothing more was stolen!
It could have been much worse. We are grateful. The police came and took a statement. They returned today and got fingerprints off the burglar bars.
These things happen. We always knew that spot was the most vulnerable in our property so now we have got hold of a fencing company to try to do something about it.
I was again reminded of the little saying that is written on a piece of paper and is stuck to the cupboard door next to my desk… don’t wait for things to get easier, simpler, better. Life will always be complicated. Learn to be happy right now. Otherwise you will run out of time.
No matter who you are, where you live, what your bank balance looks like. No matter what your circumstances, life will always be complicated. There will always be the niggly bits that have to be negotiated. Learn to be happy right now. Otherwise you will run out of time.
Psalm 90:12
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Today is the day to be happy!
These are the days!
Keep the smile going!
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
