That’s the truth – going through life there will always be irritations and last night I experienced one of them.
The interviews I go to in Durban are held at the Hilton Hotel and it is so very convenient to stay at the same hotel.  I try get the best possible price and so I joined their Hilton Honors programme and as this was a Saturday night, I paid way in advance. The Hilton is a high end hotel and so there is the expectation that everything will be super-duper. The last time I was here it was, although it was a week-night and so was not so busy. This time is was overflowing with people. While the hotel is high profile, I am clearly not! 🙂
I had checked in online, so I just had to pick up my key and go to my room. The air quality of my room number 304 was terrible!! It was so stale and dank and musty. I called the front desk and they said they would send someone up. I had bought some dinner and needed a plate and knife and fork, so I called room service and asked for that. Then I waited. After an hour, no one had arrived. By then I had eaten my dinner using the wrapper as a plate.  And, by then, my throat was feeling clogged, I was headachy and I could feel respiratory irritation. That wasn’t the only irritation – I was annoyed!
I called the front desk again but there was no reply. So I used my cell phone and called the hotel. The guy who answered said he would contact the manager and call me back. He didn’t.
Another half an hour passed and after venting a bit to Mike, he suggested I go down and find someone, so back to the reception I went. A man who had ‘chef’ on his white shirt, introduced himself as the manager for the evening and together we went to my room, which, he agreed was extremely stuffy. He told me they had aircon problems that day. He turned the air-conditioner down to 5C! He then insisted that it will be okay and left. Last I heard from him as well!
The air-conditioner clearly wasn’t working properly, but putting it as low as 5C did help and I managed to fall asleep. The bed was comfortable!
Yay!
# 118 of my 1000 thanks is that the bed was comfortable!
#119 of my 1000 thanks is that the air improved enough in the room for me to sleep well.
This morning I thought how interesting it is that no matter what our road and journey, there will always be irritations.  How we cope with them makes a difference. When they compromise our health, you have to be a bit more circumspect about how to respond. I was disappointed, irritated and actually annoyed, but there was not much to be done about it. This morning I set about praying through it and that made a difference. Forcing myself to have an attitude of gratitude and thanking God for His blessings worked.
The day has turned out not so bad. The interview campaigns for 2016 are over. I will probably do this again in February 2017. Will I stay at the Hilton? Probably, if I can get the same price, but next time I will come with lower expectations.
This is the view from my room this morning….that’s Sahara Park, Kingsmead!
#120 of my 1000 thanks is the fantastic internet I get here for free!
But the biggest thing for which I am grateful and so thankful today is for my daughter!
#121 of my 1000 thanks is that Stacey celebrates her birthday today. 29 years ago at this time I was about to give birth to one of the two greatest gifts I have received in my life.
Because of Stacey, I am a better person today.
Jeremiah 17:7-8
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in Him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
I love you my girl.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
