There was a Sad Moment in the Life of the van Niekerks

2-39pm

After a restful morning yesterday, in the afternoon we pottered along to David’s flat to help him put some framed maps up on his wall. The look fabulous. One is ancient. We don’t know how old, but it’s a shipping map showing the ocean routes between the entire south western coast of Africa and the entire east coast of South America. It shows basic pictures of what the ship’s crew can look out for when they arrive at islands and ports so they know what to expect.  Here is the sketch of what Cape Town was like – a pretty good drawing I think of Captain Opdam dated 1766…

Table HillJust a little error occurring there with Devil’s Peak being called Lion’s Head and Lion’s Head, Lion’s Rump. I guess at the time Table Mountain was not considered high enough to be called a mountain and was only a Hill! A delightful sketch.

On the way home from David we passed the scene of a horrible accident on Kommetjie Rd Fish Hoek.  We stopped, took some photos and spoke to some witnesses, including the driver of the Yaris who walked away UNSCATHED. ….look at what he got out of…YarisHe told us he was waiting to turn right from Quarry Rd into Kommetjie Rd. His light was red. When it turned green he started forward. The Golf, with three occupants, was speeding away from the scene of a crime (apparently ATM fraud), from the direction of Fish Hoek. They overtook, at speed, the cars waiting at the red light, putting them on the wrong side of the road and connected with the Yaris head on. The golf spun and ramped up the curb at right angles into a wall….it’s on the left of this photo below…

Golf and YarisAccording to bystanders, one of the thugs ran away from the scene. The other two were taken round the corner to False Bay Hospital. The driver of the Yaris says he was saved by the car’s airbags.

I say he was saved by God.

Isaiah 14:24 The LORD Almighty has sworn, “Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will happen.

Our lives are in God’s hands. We must trust Him and Him alone. And there’s no better time that now!

This morning we went to church, and Pastor John preached a brilliant sermon. 🙂

When we got home, there was a sad moment in the life of the van Niekerks…an 8 year long era came to an end, when we found our budgie Benji lying very still on the floor of his cage. 🙁 We got Benji in about 2005. He has survived a few close calls, but it seems, very suddenly, he died. We buried him in the back garden where he joined two other budgies, a few cats and a pair of rats who have all gone before him. We thanked the Lord for the pleasure Benji had bought us. We will miss him.  It makes us every happier that we have Truffles! We are loving having her.

For the rest of the day, we had a fabulous brunch with David and now I’ve done show prep and now with the blog done, there’s not too much more to do today.

The week lies ahead. My days are full. I need to be organised!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
