Tuesday
Dear Elsie,
I’ve been thinking about the secret to longevity. Sometimes you see stories in the press about old people who are 103 and they have an inkling into the secret to their longevity. They speak about how they were raised, how happy they were, how they ate and how they exercised. I have a couple of opinions on the topic. To start with the secret to longevity lies in God’s hands. He knows the day of our birth and the day of our death and even if we live perfect lives, there are no guarantees as to how long we get to walk this earth. Some people are super healthy, yet die young. Others are super unhealthy yet the make old bones! So the true secret to longevity only God knows.
What I believe is the way to age healthily is to be sensible in each area of life. Eat when hungry and stop when full. Don’t go overboard. Eat a balanced nutritious diet. Exercise moderately. It’s not a sprint, it’s more a marathon. I really have begun to learn I don’t have to go far or fast – I just need to keep moving. We watched NYAD. What an account! I don’t have to swim across the bay to be healthy. Just 30-40 minutes at Fish Hoek will suffice. I don’t need to walk from Cape Town to Cairo – just my 70000 steps a week will do. I don’t even have to run – walking is fine. Keep busy but not too busy to be stressed. Have friends but only the ones that contribute to your life and don’t contaminate it. Be happy!
Now you know some of the things I’m thinking when I’m swimming. And the swim today was idyllic. It was quite cloudy but the sea was flat with the north wind and it was easy swimming.
I spent some time today sorting documents.
I got a some important things sorted. But the big event of the day was Mike’s passport came back from the Italian visa department. Last time he literally was given a visa for 6 months so this time we motivated for longer. And we got it! 5 years! So excited! Thank you Lord!
It makes such a difference not having to reapply. So grateful!
Psalm 30:5
For his anger lasts only a moment, but His favour lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
It’s not about now – we are only passing through.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Gran xx 🙂
