The Mince Pie Metal

Tuesday

Today was the day…

I got a response regarding the piece of metal in the mince pie. My email finally got to the right person and the latest news is a courier will arrive tomorrow morning and collect the offending fragment. At least their supplier can try figure out where it came from.

Today it rained. Mike and I did not walk to the beach, but I lay in bed and watched the north wind blow puffy clouds across the sky…

Later, between showers, we took a brisk walk to the end of Echo Rd and back. This is the magnificent view of Simon’s Town from the end of Echo.

I remember coming to this spot many years ago with Granny. I would take her for a drive and drive to the end of Echo Rd. She would sit in the car and admire the view. “Beautiful” is what she would say. I know that she would be in awe of where we are living now. Both  Mike’s parents would shake their head in wonderment. They would also be bewildered that they need to climb 80 steps to get to our front door!

There have been workmen here today. They have finished the woodwork for the balustrade on the stairwell. They also have almost finished David’s unit below ours. There are just a couple of things that need to be done there, like a skirting board needs painting and a cupboard door handle needs putting on (they got the wrong size). The toilet roll holder and towel ring and rail need to go up in the bathroom and one more piece of metal needs to go in the shower. Then Mike just needs to do final covers for the kitchen plugs and it will be finished. Werner leaves for Spain on Friday so he only has two days to complete the work. I will always be grateful to him for taking on this mammoth project and seeing it to its end and pretty much on budget. There are few that could have done what he has done. God bless Werner!
