Mike loves to watch You Tube. In his you tubing, he encountered a fantastic way of growing plants from seed and decided to give it a go. It all began with a tiny little eensie weensie blue broccoli seed…
To plant this, you will need a 2 litre plastic milk bottle. By the time Mike called me to come and join him in this exercise, he had already cut the milk bottle. You want to cut it so that the bottom half is a little bigger than the top half. Put the bottom half to one side . Turn the top half upside down with the lid on. Mike made a hole in the handle and put a strip of absorbent cloth through the hole. He then jammed the upside down top half into the bottom half of the bottle (lid side down). He stapled the two together like this…
Then we filled the top with soil…
Planted the seed and poured water into the bottom half…
Then we wet the top where the seed was planted and sat it on a sunny window sill. We are told that we need not do anything for two weeks. The seed will be watered from below. Let’s see if this works!
Meantime, about a week ago, I planted broccoli seeds into seed trays and this is what they look like right now…
So cute!
Last night Riana reminded me of my catastrophic previous attempts at growing broccoli. They were eaten by bugs and that was that. Hopefully this time will be more successful. I think as they get bigger, I will cover them. The one in the milk bottle is well protected.
My gardening exploits this spring, have, thus far, been more successful and this morning I had a lovely salad of kale and spinach taken from the garden. Gardening is very rewarding when successful. Gardeners are said to have to be eternal optimists.
#36 of my 1000 thanks, is, believe it or not, WEEDS! I get a great deal of satisfaction pulling these babies out!
Mike feels weeds are just as green as grass and so should be mown, but I believe they should be pulled. It is an endless task, but between working, I take a break and go and pull a few out.
#37 of my 1000 thanks is that all my Kuwait teachers have finally arrived in Kuwait! Yay! It’s now fun to watch them settle in & visit each other – I had them on a whattsapp group and the first time they were to meet would be after arriving in Kuwait. They were all appointed to the same school and all recruited by the company I represent, so it’s been really fun to watch. Tonight they are visiting with one another over there in 38C heat!
#38 of my 1000 thanks is that today I was able to get a replacement for my stolen laptop and this is the first blog on it.
John 10:10 – words of Jesus:
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Yip, there were thieves in the days of Christ.
But in Him, we have life and have it to the full.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
