The Blessing of the Bee

One of the little issues with the window at my desk is that I can’t open them. They are old wooden windows and once open, they don’t shut properly so I have taken to keeping them closed.  It’s a pity because as the summer arrives, it would be nice to open at least one of them to let in the breeze as I work.

So the other day, I was sitting at my desk and heard the buzzing of a bee. It had flown in and was now at my study window buzzing up a storm in trying to get out of the left window. I was in a dilemma. Being a floor up, once the window has been opened, to close it properly, I would have to get Mike to climb the ladder and push the window from the outside while I latched it on the inside. I know that’s the case with the right window. I didn’t want to risk it with the left one.

I spent a few moments watching the bee. I pondered going downstairs and getting a glass and catching it that way. Eventually, I stood up and pushed open the left window. The bee moved with the pane but still didn’t find its way out. I pushed the window further open and the bee made its escape.  As I pulled the window closed, to my utmost surprise, it came right up to the frame, fitted perfectly and latched properly! I don’t know how many summers I’ve wanted the window open but not felt I could open it because it couldn’t be closed properly. The blessing of the bee.

#966 of my 1000 thanks – this summer I can open that window.

As I started this blog, I (stupidly) opened the right window. Courage has recently varnished them and perhaps, I thought, that one will close too. Well it didn’t! So I went downstairs and got the ladder and Mike climbed up and pushed it shut. Now I know – left window only! Here they are both open…just before the road works began at the beginning of last year…

Those roadworks are coming along well. The road behind us has been tarred. I’ll go up and take a photo in the next day or two.

Today has been a relaxed day. I slept in and started work about 8-30am. I have done a leisurely 5 hours of work today. I also emailed the head office to say my last working day would be 21st December and I’d be back at work 2nd January 2019. I’ll put my email on auto reply. I’m looking forward to a complete break. Most recently I’ve been doing work 7 days a week…I may not work much on a Sunday but I’m regularly emailed or messaged. Sometimes I get messages at 9pm. Grateful to have a job. 🙂
