Take a Step Back

It’s so easy to be outside of a situation looking in. Sometimes life can get so complicated. I’m hearing of acquaintances and some of the drama that is unfolding in their lives. It’s difficult for them to see the wood for the trees. Financial issues, relationship problems, children involved and it’s just very messy.

I remember last year being on the ship and opening my work email to find some ‘pressing issues.’ Because I was so far away from it all and I was so relaxed and rested,  they were all so small and unimportant. I dealt with them, but remember lying on the bed in our cabin thinking how easy that was. Having taken a step back, the solutions were far easier to see and deal with. I really need to remind myself that when situations arise that really seem to be insurmountable, they probably aren’t.  When I look back at the burglaries last year, that was a good example of me needing to take a step back and try get some perspective on what was going on. Instead most of the time I was in complete panic mode waiting every night for breaking glass and shattered windows. When it did come, I didn’t hear it, which annoyed me greatly! Mike heard it.

The anticipation was far more stressful than the event itself.

Isn’t that the truth most times.

We sit and worry.

Fearful anticipation is a waste of worrying energy.

Whatever is happening, ‘this too will pass.’

The other thing is that I think there are two sets of circumstances. Those you can do something about and those you can’t. We can’t control the drought but we can do something to save water. We can’t control crime but we can do something to protect ourselves.  Take control of the things you can and make.

You don’t have to go far in life to see horrible stories and difficult times. They are part of life and are inevitable, but they don’t last forever.

So if you are going through a storm, this too will pass.

Hebrews 12:1

Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

#632 of my 1000 thanks is for a warm sunny autumn day that dried the towels and produced an amazing sunset.

I worked for about 6 hours today. It was a good day.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.
