Following the Sock Rules

I’ve always thought if you are going to do something, you may as well do it right. So when someone asks me the time and it’s 28 minutes past 8, I usually would say “it’s 8-28”. I regularly don’t round it off to 8-30. Sometimes I may say, “It’s almost 8-30” but if it’s 8-28, then it’s 8-28! It is what it is.

I have been amused by my socks. I bought three pairs of the same type not so long ago. Socks are one of those clothing items that end up apart regardless of how hard you try to keep the pairs together.  So with these three pairs of socks, it doesn’t really matter if one gets mixed up with another…..or so I thought. Since wearing them, I have had to follow the sock rules…at least you know I can tell my left from my right.  I make sure they get on the right feet!

But if they get mixed up, it may come to pass that I wear two rights! I’ve had them for a number of weeks and they are still in a loving relationship.

Following the sock rules made me think how comfortable I am when there are rules and boundaries and I know what is going on. The same applies to my job. I like to know what is expected of me and what the rules are.

But most of all, I think the guidance the Bible provides is what makes me most secure. I don’t always understand it and often-times there is a tension that comes from it – whether I’m doing what is wise instead of what is loving. Ultimately, it gives me a solid foundation where regardless of what life holds, the Bible reminds me that there is a steady Hand that guides and a super-natural eternal Creator that is right there all the time. He bends down to hear my cry. He is never far from me. In fact, He is right within me.

Amazing what a pair of socks can bring to mind!

#633 of my 1000 thanks has to be what is written in my diary…

And a beautiful reminder is there as well.

John 14:1

Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God and trust also in Me.

Not long now.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
