Swimming Through Murky Water

Monday

Dear Elsie

Today was the day we went to the beach. There wasn’t too much wind, but what there was came from the north. Walking down the cat walk, I could already see there were undercurrents and rip tides that would make swimming a little trickier. I could also see with it churning and swirling, there would be quite a bit of debris. On arriving at the bench, the locals announced a big seal had been seen swimming quite close to shore and I was advised to look out for it. Some seals have known to have become quite aggressive. With a bit of trepidation, I entered the water and waded & then swam through a garden of slimy seaweed in order to get beyond the breakers. Grateful for the lack of sharks, I keep a close eye out for seals and made my way towards the little lighthouse. I swam to just beyond the lifesaving club and back. By then there was someone swimming out by the barrel so I swam there and then back to the beach. Mike and I have new exercise watches and this one gives me more information about my swim. It was interesting to see.

I think it will encourage me to swim further and faster. And now that it’s monitoring my stroke, maybe when I’m not afraid of a seal, I’ll swim more crawl than breaststroke. No sign of the seal in the end. But on the way home, there were signs of the cat walk’s resident otters. They are very shy but have been known to come out at night.

Our walk home takes us over the Sunnycove Station Bridge. I stopped to take this photo. Could be anywhere in the world. If an outsider had to guess, I don’t think they would say this is Africa.

Home, breakfast and I worked for 9 hours.

Julian and Gerrie laboured their way through the massive consignment of books. Tomorrow, they return to Johannesburg. And now it’s time for me to turn in for the night.

Isaiah 26:8

Yes, Lord, walking in the way of Your laws, we wait for You.

It’s not about now – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx 🙂
