Swellendam in July 2018

Today we overslept a bit and after intending to leave at 5-45am, but only woke up at 6-15am! Having packed last night we left for Swellendam at 6-30am.  It took us 11 minutes to get to CCFm (6-41). There was quite a lot of traffic but it was free-flowing. We got to a very congested Sunrise Circle at about 6-45 and I started counting cars as there were so many of them. We passed 811 cars between Sunrise Circle and the N2. We got onto the N2 at 7-06am. 811 cars in 20 minutes. Busy road.

We walked into Home Affairs at 8-10am and joined the queue. I think my number was 13 and Mike’s was 14. Half an hour later, with a spring in our step and a smile on our face we had our documents! I got my passport and Mike his new id card.

By now we still had not had coffee so we headed for Seattle Coffee Company and tanked up with a caffeine shot! While sitting having the coffee, I looked through my passport and wondered how where it is going to travel over the next ten years.  An empty book full of possibilities.

We arrived in Swellendam at 10-30am. There were some roadworks that slowed us down and we stopped at a couple of stop/goes.

The family is doing very well. Elsie is so precious. She is smiling and babbling and is absolutely adorable.   She is so alert now and beginning to focus on faces and watches her parents intently. I happily baby sat while Adrian and Stacey caught up with some sleep and later when they went for a walk.

This evening, Stacey did me a huge favour and replaced the shoulder strap on my swimming costume. She has an industrial sewing machine which is fantastic and she has made a lot of stuff for her home from curtains to cushion covers, baby slings and even fabric nappies with built-in waterproofs.

She certainly takes after her Gran in the sewing department.

We’ve had a good day and I am ready for bed.

#735 of my 1000 thanks – for a broken garage door. Last night Mike had to do a repair to one of the garage doors. As I helped him, I was standing outside holding the garage door open. Filtered light lit up the balcony above me, the garage doors and the side gate. Just seeing these things made me extremely grateful for what I have. All the little things we may take for granted turn out to be great gifts that God has given. Our homes are one of those gifts. I appreciate mine.

John 14:1

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
