Surprised by God

Little things happen in my life that cause me to say ‘that was the Lord!’ Sometimes big things have happened that have made me glimpse the vast love that the Lord has for me. They have been tiny keyholes through the great divide that have allowed me insight into how God cares for His children. I’ve written a few times about an incident that happened on 30th September 2011. It will remain with me all the days of my life. Today it is fresh in my mind because I read Psalm 46. You can read about the encounter I had with God on that day here.

But this last week there have been two little things that again sparked the understanding that God is with us each and every moment. He knows our needs. He knows our movements. The first was pertaining to Stacey’s garage battery that had died. She ordered a new one and asked if we could go and pick it up. It was just over the mountain at Westlake Park.  The company was called Castle Access Control Systems and we were told it was ‘behind Virgin Active’.  Mike and I trundled over the mountain and we headed to Virgin Active. It was no where in that block, so I searched for it on Google maps and we drove round the corner to where Google maps said it was. Only problem was, Google maps stopped at the end of the road. So we turned around and found a parking spot and I headed across the road in the direction Google maps had told us. There was a coffee shop there, so I went inside to ask. The security gate was locked. I waited for someone to buzz me in and while doing so, saw a lady at a table on the outside deck. I asked her, “Do you know this area quite well?” “Sort of,” she replied, “what are you looking for?” I said, “The Castle electronic place.” “Oh,” she said, “I’ve just come from there! It’s round the corner about 3 or 4 gates up next to the Piano company.”

Of all the hundred or so companies & offices at Westlake business park, she had just come from the one we needed. I saw the fingerprints of God all over that encounter.

The second happened at the Vet when she was examining Truffles. I mentioned the other day that the Vet, Dr. Jean had twins on the same day Elsie was born. She had carried them to 38 weeks so they are just about developmentally equal with Elsie. I asked her how the eating was going and said Elsie was not wanting to open her mouth. She went onto tell me she was having the same issue with her little girl. She said what she did was give her daughter a spoon to hold while they fed her. When we went to see Stacey and Adrian on Saturday, I mentioned it to Stacey and last night they tried it. SUCCESS! Stacey said it’s amazing. Elsie lifts the spoon to put it in her mouth and opens her mouth to take the empty spoon. As she does so, they  bring a spoon of food toward her mouth, gently push her hand away and put their spoonful into her open mouth. Yeah! Elsie thinks she’s feeding herself.  This is a winning trick!

Truffles may have been sick, but that little encounter has helped Elsie get the hang of opening her mouth!

God always has a plan and He often answers before we have even asked.

Exodus 34:6

“The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.”

Amen!

Today’s been a good day. We slept late. It was a day of rest, but I also managed to get a bit of the house straightened out. Last night I scrubbed the kitchen floor which bought me much relief. Truffles is eating well and looking better, although she is still hesitant to go outside. Today has been a blessing.

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.
