Election Day 2014 – the national elections so this is the big one, where we vote for both provincial and national leaders. I did the show early and had lots of feedback from around Cape Town as to how things were going. In some places, it was chaos; in others all was quiet and smooth. I think it came to pass that some of the IEC (Independent Electoral Commission) personnel left stuff behind, so that delayed opening. I’ve seen reports of people waiting for hours in the queues. I think only by tomorrow we will only know exactly how it went off. My voting experience was painless…. in fact, I remember when we last voted in 2009, we arrived at the same voting station to find a long queue winding it’s way out the hall, up the path and out the gate. It still didn’t take too long to go through the process.
Today was an absolute doddle! We voted at Sun Valley Primary School. There weren’t any political parties around, although there were some posters up. There were three or four policemen sitting at the gate, looking somewhat bored.
I arrived at a time where the queue was very short, so I quickly got to the first desk, where a young girl took my ID checked it and gave me a sticker. Everyone was very friendly. There were just a few people in front of me…
I then went to the next table to be ticked off the register. Then to the ink table to have my left thumb nail marked. Table four was to collect the ballot papers. Then there was an official who checked our ballot papers were stamped and directed us to the booth. From there, they got posted in the ballot boxes and out I walked.
Altogether, it the whole process took about 5 minutes! As I came out, Mike arrived so I went to the exit and followed his progress… here he is… getting his ballot papers….
A few seconds later, he is on his way to the booth…
Makes his mark and casts his vote…
I was ‘stalking’ my husband! Ha! He didn’t know I was taking photos of him! Job done, we went out for breakfast!
Good advice for voting:
Deuteronomy 30:19
‘I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live’
Choose life!
On our return home, the ‘tree’ people were back to finish cutting back the tree….
It’s now looking pretty sparse…
It certainly won’t be a problem this winter!
Chilled, easing going day!
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
Gratitude Pic…two thumbs are better than 1
