Spur of the Moment Get-away

I nearly called this blog, “Mike & I Split” but I thought it was misleading! πŸ™‚ Yesterday, we decided that maybe a few days at the Hot Springs was a good idea. With Mike being retired, we could do this kind of thing…at the last minute decided, ‘hey let’s go away for a few days – let’s leave tomorrow!’ And so we did. The plan was sweetened in the knowledge that Caledon has a golf course!

We had brunch at the beautiful Houw Hoek Inn (established 1834) and read some of the sweetest comments of people who visited more than 100 years ago. It’s a delightful place.

Houw Hoek InnThen it was a short hop up the road to Caledon where our first stop was Caledon Golf course. Somehow, I thought it would be cooler in Caledon and I thought the golf would be shorter! I was wrong on both accounts. It’s actually a lovely course, beautifully maintained and a pleasant outlook with rolling hills. A few challenges there for the unsuspecting golfer (as we were!)

Entirely overdressed, I laboured about 7 holes and in the end announced to Mike I had had enough! He played well enough, scoring 3 pars in the first 6 holes. He generously took me to the hotel and checked us in before returning to the golf course for the remainder of his 18 holes. That’s when Mike & I split! He went golfing and I headed to the Spa. I have almost dreamed about coming back here…

Victorian BathThe temperature of the water can get up to 49C. They have to cool it down to 38 so that it’s tolerable for us. I lolled around and really enjoyed relaxing.

This is the waterfall pool which is a whole lot cooler except for the water which runs off the mountainside – that comes in beautifully warm.

β€œCome with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

These are the days.

Keep the smile going

God bless you!
