Skittish Cats

Friday

Dear Elsie

Today was the day after a very restless night. We made the mistake of keeping the cats in our bedroom for the night and they were wide awake right through the night. While yesterday they were hiding under the bed, by night they were ready to socialise and investigate their surroundings. They climbed all over the place and showed me a lot of attention. When I went to bed, they jumped up on the bed and were merrily kneading and purring, which was a great sign.

At 2.30am, I was woken by their shenanigans and sat on my rocking chair while they milled around. Imagine my surprise when Claw’d wanted to come and sit on my lap. Curling himself up he snuggled down and started purring. Raiku joined him and for a short while I had both on my lap. Good signs, so I thought.

By the light of day, everything changed. They looked at me as if I was a complete stranger that hadn’t lost at least 3 hours of sleep to keep them company. They fled from my advances. The bedroom by morning, was honking of cat litter tray, a cat cushion that hadn’t been washed for its whole life and smelly cat food. A change was required. I put the cushion through the wash.  We let them explore the rest of our floor and they found the most remote, most difficult to access passage in the whole place. Under the cupboard in the scullery. Claw’d stayed there the whole day. Raiku came out and then retreated under the couch.

I had to go out at 1pm. When I got back at 2.30pm, Raiku was gone from under the couch and a window was open. We thought he had escaped. We looked all over and couldn’t find him anywhere. We thought he may have joined Claw’d so Mike took the cover off the bottom of the cupboard and there was Claw’d but no Raiku. We were now freaking out a bit. Then at about 5.30pm, I walked into the lounge and there was Raiku sauntering in as if he had been upstairs. I don’t know where he had been, but we were really pleased he had been found.

By this time, I had got Claw’d into Mike’s study with all their cat paraphernalia and there they will stay until they have got used to us and at least tonight Mike and I will get some sleep. What a day! At least it ended well.

Outside, Mike, Courage and Brian threw the first slab. Paul, the engineer stopped by to check it was ok and they went ahead, using our new cement mixer for the event.

The foundation can cure over the weekend and we can all rest!

Psalm 130:6
I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

It’s not about now – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx
