Shark Alert!

Saturday

Today was the day….

There was a shark alert at Fish Hoek beach. Mike and I arrived and Mike prepared for his run, while I prepared for my swim. As I got onto the beach and started heading for the water, people started saying, ‘no, no, no, you can’t go swim – there’s a shark!’  Now there have been so many dolphins and those fins sometimes look like shark fins, but apparently the guy that saw the shark, knows sharks. He rushed to get people out the water. Mike and I changed our plans and walked to the end of the beach and back and then we both went into the shallows. Mike had a dip in 14C water, while I swam up and down in the shallows for half an hour.

Not all sharks are created equal. It most likely was a bronze whaler which looks like this…Credit Andy Murch

Bronze whalers are less aggressive, but I don’t want to be in the ocean to tempt either type.  I’m still hoping for lots more swimming this winter. The dolphins were in the water as well. The old wives tale that when there are dolphins, there are no sharks and when there are sharks, there are no dolphins is just that – a fallacy! Where there are fish you may find dolphins, seals and sharks – they all want the food!

We got home around 11am and had a very welcome breakfast. The rest of the day was quite restful. Milo did a lot of cleaning! We went to Gelmar for a few things and Mike spent the rest of the afternoon working on the scullery. Bread is in the bread maker.  It’s aroma is wafting through to me and it smells really good!

After dinner we walked to Fish Hoek and back again and there’s just been a shower, so we missed that.

It’s been a good day.

Hebrews 13:15

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that openly profess His name.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
