Seriously Sunny Saturday

Today has been a wonderfully sunny day. It’s the warmth before the rain as there is a cold front forecast to arrive in Cape Town tomorrow. There were a few things that have happened today – the first is that Mike has come down with a nasty cold/flu virus that has him laid low. I’ve been dosing him up with Advilics and that seems to work. He stayed home while I went out for breakfast with Julian. David meantime, headed up and down Elsies Peak 6 times as part of the Methodist Church sponsored hikeathon in aid of a couple of good causes. On the way home from breakfast I stopped by to find out how he was doing. He was on his 5th time and was pacing himself well. His record a few years ago was 10 times! Imagine that. We came down Elsie’s Peak after walking it a month or two back and felt suitably exercised. The idea of going back up for a second time was beyond us, let alone 6 more times!

At lunchtime, I headed up to Silvermine, again leaving Mike home to keep his germs to himself and rest his stuffy head and runny nose. The trip was to a braai to say goodbye to Dustin. Dustin has lived in the cottage behind our house for the last 2 years and in just over a week, he leaves to return to the States to get married! It’s so bitter sweet. So wonderful that he has met Carolyn and they are set for marriage in December.  He has been a quiet and unassuming part of our lives – an unobtrusive neighbour who we have loved having. The ideal tenant.  God willing they will return next year to continue with the work he has been involved with here as a missionary with Living Hope. He’s just blended in so very well and I think I can call him a Capemerican. Lots of his friends and co-workers came to join in the ‘see ya later’ farewell. It was also for Jesse who has been in South Africa volunteering in various avenues for a few years as well. These guys have been great golfing companions of Mike’s and we have had some seriously good times on the golf course. I’ll miss that! (Dustin is in sitting in the middle of the picture at the back and Jesse is the far left).

Dustin Jesse and coworkersThere were lots of friends and co-workers who came and it was great to see.

FriendsThe braai was fabulous…

A couple of weeks after Dustin leaves, Morgan arrives! We are looking forward to having her. When we built the cottage for Granny in 2002, we never in our wildest dreams imagined that it would become home to visiting missionaries. We are blessed to have them.

This weekend, I need to at least start to write three blogs on the Maldives. I’ve written part of the first and need to write a few more.  I got this small job through Upwork and my client is the PR for Alpha Maldives which is where all my blogs go. I write three a month. On the Alpha Maldives link above, apart from the St. Regis piece, I’ve written all the ones with pictures. For a long time I didn’t have a clue where they were using them – now I do!

Psalm 90:17

May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us– yes, establish the work of our hands.

These are the days!

Keep the smile going!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
