Saturday Before Christmas 2023

Dear Elsie

Today you and I had a good chat. You are so helpful in keeping me company while doing chores. We did a lot. You watched while I filled up the birds’ sugar water. Today I was careful not to put in so much sugar. I halve the amount so hopefully they won’t get through it as much. We found Raiku sitting on the balcony watching the birds drink the water. He was so interested but also very aware the birds are completely out of reach. You were so quiet while we waited for the birds – so as not to scare them away. Raiku loves to watch them. You also watched as I cleaned the balustrade on the balcony and as I wrapped Grandpa’s Christmas present.   I love chatting to you.

Earlier this morning, we had gone to the beach. The wind was not too bad and I had a lovely swim.

As did many others…

On the way home, a train pulled into Sunny Cove station. I waved at the train driver and he hooted a hello in reply.

The rest of the day was spent cleaning which bought me a great deal of satisfaction. The fire was flaring up in a few spots and so the helicopters were still water bombing the areas. The smell of smoke has gone and generally everything has died down. Unfortunately, the wind has not and a strong south-easter is due all through the long weekend. Let’s hope there are no more fires.

Today we rearranged the lounge and set up the table to accommodate the 8 of us.

This evening everyone came up for dinner and Claw’d and Raiku were introduced to Lizzie who is almost 10 months old. Claw’d was absolutely petrified. Never before has he seen a little human who is given to squawking and crawling enthusiastically after him. He did not know what to make of her! He will soon get used to her.

Time to wrap up for the day.

Isaiah 51:12
“I, even I, am He who comforts you.”

It’s not about now – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx
