Rainy Tuesday 4th June

Today the rain came in and the work was less. I slept in, only getting up after 8am. I got to work and did some this morning and some this afternoon.  In between, there was gym and this afternoon there was tennis!

There was some thunder and lightning which had Truffles running for cover.

One of the things that happened in Cape Town over the last week or so has caused a lot of media attention. It all began when a lady low on fuel pulled into a petrol station on the N2. Before saying how much to put in her tank, she thought she’d better find out how much money she had or if she had her bank card. She had neither. To her astonishment, the petrol attendant told her he didn’t want her running out of fuel on the N2 and he would put R100 in her tank. She could swing by another time and pay him pack. He didn’t give his name and he didn’t take hers.

She did return. She repaid the R100 but she also found out about Nkosikho Mbele and found the circumstances he lives with. She writes, “When I returned later to give him the money, I asked him what made him help me and how could he trust that I would return the money. He answered me by saying: “Ma’am I am a believer!” Thank you Nkosikho for your lovely heart. You gave me hope today for our country.” Amen!

She also started crowd-funding for him which raised more than R400 000 for this 28-year-old who says he gave it because he is a believer. He has asked the money be kept to fund his children’s education. And now Shell, the organisation for whom he works, has contacted him and will be sending him to the international Shell Global Service Excellence Awards.

His act of kindness is unexpectedly paying dividends. I admire the lady who got the crowd-funding going and made the story go viral. If it had been me, I would have returned to the petrol station and given him R200. I may have contacted his manager and told them of his kind gesture but I definitely wouldn’t have gone the fundraising route. Good on her.

Psalm 91:3-4

He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge.

What wonderful words.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
