Quite a Surreal Experience

Monday

Yesterday afternoon was quite a surreal experience. We went down to the building site, having been there earlier in the day to see the men putting blocks between the ribs.

When we got back, the workers had left and as we walked up the steps, we got a glimpse of their day’s work…all the ribs and blocks that make up the next floor were in place..

Looking in from the side…to the basement…

Mike scrambled up the rubble that covers the steps and he was amazed. I went up too, but looked away until I was at the level and then I turned to look…I couldn’t believe it….it was startling. This is the second level floor. It was so high. It was so unexpected…WOW.

We began to get an idea of how much the existing house’s roof will be in the way. Not too  much.

This is looking out to Kalk Bay from what will be the balcony of the second level…

Mike set  about explaining where everything was going to go for this level…

The whole thing of being up there and seeing the view and knowing that it was still going up another two levels was almost overwhelming. I have never felt entitled. We haven’t asked for this and we certainly never expected it. We don’t feel we deserve it, yet here we are with God having thrown wide open this door and with us gingerly peaking in and seeing something we never thought we’d see.  It is very humbling.

But there’s been no time to stop and think. Today, we had to go down and finalise where the down-lights will go and how much distance is between each one. I sat on the blocks and marveled…

And I helped Mike measure…

And watched the men work…

It was warm with less wind. It took us just over an hour and then we left to come home. Mike is preparing for tomorrow. We will go down there early to get the job done. The wind is due to do what it did today. It was less throughout the morning and has picked up this afternoon. It’s now very windy, so working early tomorrow will be better.

Mike went again this afternoon for another small job. The engineer was there, checking the wire content of the beam boxes. He instructed the workers to add a little more to the back. It is good that this is going to be such a well-engineered house. We don’t want it sliding down the mountainside.

Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon His Name; make known His deeds among the peoples!

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,
