Priorities

On Friday when Julian and I went to Franschoek, Mike stayed behind to work. That was also the day that the Echo cottage was broken into and at lunchtime we got the news. Mike went to Echo and saw the damage. Then he left to go home, but only to pick up his tools. While Julian and I were sitting having a bite to eat at Spier, unbeknownst to us, Mike was slaving away fixing the window.

We left Spier and on the way home, I phoned Mike to find out what the plan was for the repair work. That was when I found out Mike was busy with it right there and then. Initially, I was going to go back to our house with Julian to help him off load the books he had bought, but when I heard Mike was on his own fixing the window, we changed the plan immediately and  Julian dropped me at Echo. He then took the books back to our house and off loaded them himself. I went in to give Mike some support.  Mike really appreciated it. Later when we were talking about the events of the day, he said, “You know Helga, you are the only one who has ever made me a priority.”

It was quite a poignant moment.

When we look at our lives and those who surround us, our spouses are really the only ones who can make us a priority. I serve Mike and he serves me.  There may be times in our future, where our children will make us a priority too but that normally is circumstantial.  I remember when Mike’s Dad died and Mike drove to Port Elizabeth to be with his Mom. She was heart-broken. They returned to East London together and Mike was her comforter in those early devastating days.

My priority for Mike is daily.  I’ve often said be your spouse’s biggest fan. If I am not Mike’s biggest fan, who will be?

But what if you are single?  You are never alone. When you believe in Jesus Christ,  He is your biggest fan. He is at your side, urging you on. He has got your back.

Jeremiah 31:3

I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

God has made you a priority. If He hadn’t, He wouldn’t have died for you.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
