Penultimate Day of 2020

Wednesday

Today was the day…

.. the second last day of 2020. A lot of people are waiting for this year to end with great anticipation that 2021 will be better. Tonight is a full moon, but the horizon is slightly hazy so we are not seeing it rise. Last night, I caught it almost full and rising over False Bay…

We had load shedding last night and Mike woke during it. At just before 2am, we went and sat on the balcony. It was so still and silent. It’s not often we are up and outside at such an hour. Surprisingly, a security vehicle drove up and parked outside our house. The driver got out and tried the front door of the house across the road. It was locked. He then went through a little gate and down the side of the house. With nothing to report, he returned to the car and drove off. I think the alarm batteries were flat and it sent a silent signal to the control room. Our alarm used to do that during load shedding. At 2:08am, the lights across the town came on. We went back to bed and woke up around 7am.

Today was the second day of our new level 3 Covid restrictions. Mike and I walked to Fish Hoek for a couple of things and came back via the cat walk. Fish Hoek beach…

And the water was calling my name but we are no allowed to respond…

The beach workers took advantage of cleaning the beach and doing some maintenance so it’s looking beautiful.

Mike and I went to the Blue Route this morning. I bought my diary for 2021 and a few other things.

The afternoon passed quietly. I have enjoyed sitting on the balcony. The weather, you can see has been lovely. Summer in Cape Town.

Another photo from last night, Julian peeling potatoes. Ha! He offered to do something and I usually say, “no need”, but yesterday I remembered potatoes had to be peeled. He did them all himself!

We have to enjoy each day because you can’t be sure of tomorrow. With the second wave of Covid taking grip, it’s horrible to read that yesterday 497 people died of the disease in South Africa.

Isaiah 54:10

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken,” says the Lord.

Comforting words.

The best is yet to come.

Keep the  smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
