We moved into our home in 1989 and when we did, we inherited some unusual features. Two of the bedroom doors had holes in them. They were punched in by angry fists. Mike, having run the YMCA, was not unacquainted with this kind of delinquent behaviour having encountered it first hand in some of the more restless Y residents. Being a Jack of all trades and a master of many, he quickly set about fixing the holes in the doors, gave them a fresh coat of paint and we got on with life.
Many years have passed and the repair work is finally needing to be redone. I’m always a little concerned when people visit that they could possibly notice the scar in the door. Do they think that one of us has lost our temper? Cringe!
This week, the repair work began again and the doors got fixed. Mike and I spent part of yesterday and today painting the passage and the bathroom. In fact right now, I’m waiting for the bathroom to dry so I can go and put on a second coat.
Mike got 7 years of great experience in renovating at the Y. He painted out every room in the Y, rewired the kitchen, carpet-tiled all the rooms, fixed the appliances, serviced the vehicles and even did all the shopping. He set out the pantry in order of the aisles at the hypermarket, so when the catering manager made her list it was in order of how the store was laid out! That’s my clever husband for you! 🙂
He has always worn blue overalls when working. I remember when we met and I would go and visit him at the Y and there he would be working on one or other maintenance project and he would be in his blue overalls.
Today he was standing outside the back door and as I looked at him, my mind went back 31 years. I always admired him for his ability to fix just about anything. As he stood there thinking through his strategy for finishing this painting project, he had the same stance and the same expression as all those years ago. I smiled and thought how remarkable it is that so much time can pass and yet some things never change. Mike in his blue overalls.
Here he is painting the cornices in the bathroom…
And now it is all ready for me…goodbye peachy orange….you have served your purpose. Bring on Fancourt Slate!
Here is how far I’ve got….looks much better!
#242 of my thousand thanks is for all the exercise I have done with Mel and using my app has well equipped me for hopping up and down a ladder and stool to get this painting done.
Proverbs 11:25
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
Such a great verse.
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
