Overslept

It’s not often that Mike and I wake up and find the time to be closer to 8am than 6am, but that was what happened this morning!  It left me a bit behind as I needed to get washing on the line and work done before a series of four Skype appointments.

Tuesdays are busy days. Usually Mavis comes but she went to the Transkei to build her house and said she would be away for June. She has not yet returned, so I am not quite sure what has happened to her. I must phone her to find out. The rubbish gets taken on a Tuesday, but the other thing that caught  my eye today was two municipal men walked by and they checked our water metre. Our next water bill will reflect their reading.

By 3pm, I had completed the four appointments, caught up with lots of email and spent a good amount of time replying to whatsapp messages.

So Mike and I went for a walk, starting behind our house to admire progress being made on the road…

Then we walked down to the pond and enjoyed the sight of two ducks playing in the water. It was a treat to watch…

Yesterday on our walk, we stopped to speak to some contractors who said that all the digging up of the road is indeed to lay cables to bring fiber to our neighbourhood. Yup, we are finally entering the really fast super highway to the world-wide web!

Mike made fish for dinner and then we watched a Grand Designs with a guy making a home out of shipping containers. Quite remarkable, although I’ve never been a fan of a straight up and down house that is very boxy. It was amazing to watch and to see how in expensive it was.

#353 of my 1000 thanks is for the hot water we enjoy. After we got home from our walk, we showered before the sun went down so that it would be slightly warmer. We are still having ‘sailor showers’ where we wet ourselves and then turn the tap off while we soap ourselves down. We save a lot of water that way. Water is also saved by showering one after the other as the second person does not have to wait for the water to heat up so less is lost. We are flushing the loo with the tank water. We foresee the water situation in Cape Town to be critical for a couple of years to come and these extreme water saving measures are the new normal. We have solar geyser and plenty of heat on these warmish winter days.

Psalm 9:10

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Never forsaken!

These are the days!

Keep the smile going!

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
