One Year

Wednesday

Time does not stop – that’s an undeniable fact. And the busier I am, the quicker it seems to go. It’s one year ago today that I went from this…

To this…

One year later…

I’m rather rosy-cheeked because I’d just got in from gym. And I can see a few stray grey hairs peeking out that weren’t there a year ago.

It’s hard to believe it’s a year of braces. People cannot believe a year has gone by but that’s because these tracks have not been in their mouths! There is a best thing about them and there is a worst thing about them.

The best thing is that they are working. It’s remarkable how my teeth have moved. It is amazing.

The worst thing is having to explain. I bump into someone I haven’t seen for ages and they will stare at my mouth, until eventually I have to raise the subject to satisfy their curiosity. I always start with “it was a case of braces now or dentures later.” That immediately answers the ‘why?’  But I do feel very self-conscious even a year on.  Tomorrow, Mike and I will visit friends of mine who I haven’t seen since I was 18, so that routine will unfold. I often also start the conversation by saying I’m building a new house and a new mouth! The house, I believe, is going to win that race!

So what’s ahead? I see the orthodontist on 26th November. He says he will give me a month’s notice of surgery. I think from that date on, it will be surgery preparation. He’ll take a cast to see exactly how the surgery will work out. He’ll send everything to the surgeon for his opinion and then I’ll have an evaluation with the surgeon again. Then I guess a date will be set. Once surgery is over, it’s a 6 week recovery period. Braces are on for another six to eight months.  If all goes really really well, this time next year, I won’t have them.

Anyway, today’s been a good day. We were at the site twice for Mike to do some measurements. I took some photos but I’ll upload them tomorrow. Tomorrow our granite gets delivered to Abdul!

This evening I went to the neighbourhood watch AGM. Time to wrap up.

1 Peter 2:10

Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Mercy – something we all need.

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Gym:

Ran 5km slowly so my heart rate average was 147. I spent less than 3 minutes with it over 170. Maximum was 173. Feels fine tonight.

Braces:

1 year.
