No Gym, No Work

Today’s has been a lovely day and it is only lunchtime. I came to my computer in order to buy electricity and decided to jot down a few of my thoughts.

We woke up around 6am and I did the coffee run. We went to church at 8am. They have just begun a series in Deuteronomy. I have completed reading the book for this year and tomorrow I will start Judges. It is excellent teaching, recapping the events and putting them more in perspective as well as tying them up with the New Testament. So far we are really enjoying it.

Afterwards, we headed to friends (Peter and Riana) for coffee and a chat. This is the advantage of going to church at 8am. The day lies ahead. On the way home we stopped at the Mall and bought lunch and then had a lazy rest of morning. David came for lunch and we watched, of all things, Snooker. The guy David wanted to win, won.

Now lunch is done and electricity is bought and I have done no gym and no work. I am going to have a Sunday afternoon nap and may even do some reading.  Julian got me onto one of Agatha Christie’s most popular books…

It’s light fiction – a fun ‘who done it’ featuring Inspector Hercule Poirot! When Agatha Christie wrote this book, she had no idea that Poirot would become such a well-known televised character. My picture of him as I read the book is absolutely what I’ve seen on TV. He appeared in 33 novels, one play and more than 50 of Agatha Christie’s short stories, so he is full on one of the recurring characters in Christie works. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was first published nearly 92 years ago (June 1926). The British Crime Writer’s Association voted it the best Crime novel ever, so I’m eager to read to the end.

That’s my entertainment for the afternoon. Julian scorns me for being a notoriously slow reader (of anything other than the Bible). I remind him that I read Anna Karenina, even if it did take me almost a year and a cruise was required to get me over the finish line. I also read Jane Eyre at his suggestion. Usually, if Julian says it’s a good read, it is. He is so well read, often reading a few books at a time. He has a bedside book at his home in Johannesburg, a plane book and a book he reads in Cape Town. Taking after my Dad, he is a prolific reader. He has turned his passion for books into a thriving business. www.chapter1.co.za. I’m very proud of him. 🙂

#638 of my 1000 thanks is for one of these days – a relaxing Sunday on which to rest, just as it should be.

Ephesians 4:7

To each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
