New Year Games

Friday

Today was the day…

2021 began! Last night we had some New Year games. To start with, we took this cracker filler and took turns to see who could get it to spin the longest.

Gerrie won with a time of 33.2 seconds. Mike came second with 32.7 seconds and I think it was David who came third with 32.4 seconds.  My time was a pretty sad 24 seconds. Then it was onto something Julian has wanted to find out for a while. A far more energetic competition to find out how long it takes to get up the 83 steps!

David went first and set the pace, blitzing up in just 17 seconds.

I went next. My strategy is to not go too fast. One must leave room for improvement!

My time a sedate 49 seconds.

Julian went next…

He got up in 35 seconds.

Gerrie took the challenge to a new level, going barefoot…

He was only 2 seconds slower than David, finishing at 19 seconds.

Still to come: COURAGE! He is super fit so it will interesting to see his time. It was a lot of fun.

We had a lovely dinner and then everyone went back to their homes and we waited for midnight…this was 10pm New Year’s Eve…

Mike and I stood on the balcony and joined the cheers of a couple of other households that rang in the new year from their own homes. Then we watched a few fireworks erupt from across the bay. It wasn’t long before we were tucked up in bed and fast asleep.

This morning, we set off not long after 7am. We ended up walking about 6.5km but it all began by going over the bridge and turning towards Simon’s Town. It was lovely to see a different perspective…the Sunny Cove bridge…

On the rocks…

View of our hillside…

I have not done too much else today. It’s been a gentle start to the new year with the exception of the wind which has picked up and white horses are galloping in droves towards Fish Hoek beach.

I have had a new visitor. The bottle got refilled and very soon this chap arrived. He is a male orange-breasted sun bird…he has an amazing dark greeny-blue head with a dash of purple around his neck. This was taken through the lounge window so I couldn’t get an accurate picture of his true beauty.

He’s been backwards and forwards to our drinking spot today.

Goals for 2021:

  • Read through the Bible in a year.
  • Fill in my Cronometer diary every day.
  • Put up a picture on Instagram every day.

I’m not sure if I’ll succeed with the second and third, but I’ll give it a go.

It’s a new year:

Mark 9:23

Jesus said, “All things are possible for one who believes.”

The best is yet to come.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
