Nelson Mandela – What The Media Are Saying Today…

2-59pm

Apparently they are camped outside the hospital in droves… a growing number of local and international journalists, waiting, watching, trying to glean any new information. I have been following the Twitter ‘Madiba’ trend and found this photo posted by Dr. Lerato…

Dr Lerato photo of the pressSome people are saying it’s sick how the media are waiting for bad news. But it’s not just anyone… it is Nelson Mandela.  The level of media interest is in keeping with the importance of the statesman. It would be a sad day indeed if no one pitched up to show an interest or report on his health and well-being. I’m glad he’s being reported on. It is going to be a hugely sad day, across the world when he finally does say farewell to this earth. It probably won’t be unexpected but it will be sad.

The other point about the media waiting is because the news they are receiving is not conducive to them going back to their offices. CNN says he remains in ICU and that his daughter Zenani has flown home from Argentina to be with her Dad.  News24 says his condition is unchanged from when he was admitted on Saturday morning and then they were saying, ‘It’s serious this time.’

The BBC website reported the most positive comments yet:

“The BBC’s Karen Allen in Pretoria says there is a quiet hope that the man who led the fight against apartheid may regain his strength once again. She says that many took heart from a visit on Sunday by Mr Mandela’s daughter, Zindzi, who said that her father was “well” and “a fighter”.”

IOL says there is a ban on visitors but the spokesperson for the Presidency says it is in keeping with typical ICU restrictions.  EWN has  released a story saying the SA president will visit Nelson Mandela at an appropriate time.

This is the Euro News contribution…

The Sky News reporter, Alex Crawford  says the the medical staff have restricted visitors and that those who are allowed in,  have to put on a mask and wash their hands before seeing him. Winnie Mandela went to see him today. There is a certain amount of anxiety and tension around Nelson Mandela and his health because it is referred to as ‘serious, but stable.’  Speaking on Sky News,  Max Maharaj says  “At the moment, all our wish and priority should be to ensure the medical team is given the maximum opportunity to be totally focused on the job of treating former President Nelson Mandela. Our focus should be that he is with us and he is receiving the best possible treatment and everything is being done to keep him comfortable and for him to get better. ” He also added the request to pray for Madiba and his family at this difficult time.

The Desmond Tutu Foundation: “…We offer our thanks to God for the extraordinary gift of Mr Mandela, and wish his family strength.”

So there you go. These are some of the reports coming out of the media. We’ll wait and watch and pray.

Today, I saw Granny.  I wrapped her up warmly and took her into the garden to breath in the damp grass smell, admire the beautiful blue sky and the lovely trees.

Job 14:5 A person’s days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed.

Your days, my days, determined, decreed, limits have been set.

We are in God’s Grip!

May He bless you!

Helga xx 🙂
