My “Other Mother”…

5-10pm

We should all have a spare Mom! You never know when you may need one! 🙂 Aunty Wyn Beale mothered & mentored me when I arrived in Cape Town at the age of 18. I spent many many weekends at the Beale home just outside Somerset West. When they moved, I continued to visit them until happily they settled in Fish Hoek. Every Thursday I would visit Aunty Wyn and “Oupes” (Mr. Beale) for lunch. They were so loving and kind and interested in my life. I untangled many thoughts and ideas  on their patio surrounded by fuchsias!  I always said ‘when I grow up I want to be like Aunty Wyn!’ I’m actually still saying it! This year, in November Aunty Wyn will turn 90. I have absolutely no doubt she will get to this fine age. She is in sterling health. Quite some years ago, Oupes and Aunty Wyn decided to return to England. Not long after their arrival, Oupes took seriously ill and died unexpectedly. They were married for about 52 years. Aunty Wyn had lost her lifetime partner and soul mate. It was so sad! They were not without family. 4 wonderful children produced 6 lovely grand-daughters who have now produced (so far) two great grandsons! A couple of years ago Aunty Wyn was persuaded to move to Australia to be closer to three of her children. She now makes her home in a retirement village in Sydney and is extravagantly happy. I spent 45 minutes on the phone to her this morning and was again reminded that when I turn 90, I want to be just like her. The secret of her happiness of soul  and serenity of countenance is two fold – firstly, she knows and loves the Lord Jesus Christ and has walked with Him her entire life. He has been her Rock and Foundation. Secondly, she is a  brilliant optimist, always looking on the bright side of life. Here is my beloved ‘Aunty Wyn’ with granddaughter Melissa and great grandson…

When I was on the phone to her this morning, she actually told me about this photo taken a week or two ago. I said I’d look up Melissa on FB and when I did, to my delight Melissa had it as her profile pic, so I downloaded it.

Mentoring today is as important as it was 2000 years ago when Paul wrote the following to Titus in Crete…

Titus 2: 3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
When Aunty Wyn and I get to heaven, we are going to have a fine time together!

As for the rest of this beautiful sunny day, Mike rigged up a hook for Benji the Budgie on the patio. He absolutely LOVES being outside…

I sorted some laundry ahead of Mavis’ return on Monday! Hallelujah!!!!! I also got out this…

Yum!

The house is quieter than usual because David is away. Mike & I will settle Granny and then take off this evening for a bite to eat. It’s been a fabulous day! 🙂

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
