Friday
Today was the day…
I unexpectedly got a new desk. The Lord provided one. Sometimes these things happen: you get something you have needed but not necessarily prayed for! That’s what happened with my new desk. I’ve needed a desk with draws. Mike and I have been looking out for one but hadn’t found anything suitable. I’ve been using a simple work table that Mike made and belongs to David and a dining room side board that has two draws in it that belonged to Granny. This was my arrangement…nothing really wrong with it, except I needed more drawers. So today, I walked into Fish Hoek heading for a place we have passed so many times. It’s a gift store at 27 Main Rd Fish Hoek. It’s on the sea side of the road. Beautiful Living…
Inside I found a credenza desk. It’s a half desk with four draws which lock. It is perfect for my use and was only R250, and, Kevin the owner, was happy to deliver it. I paid and started walking home. As I arrived at my gate, so did Kevin with the delivery. He and Courage lugged it upstairs and voila…it works perfectly with the old work desk of David’s…
This arrangement now has longevity, so I hope David doesn’t want the table back!
Much work is going to be done in this nook.
Apart from my walk into town, I also went shopping for final Christmas gifts. While I was out, Mike was too. The three phase solar project has taken both physical time and mental energy. It’s so complicated, but he is edging towards the finish line and we are waiting for a calm day so it’s safe to get on the roof. If wind guru is to be believed, the first calm day expected is Wednesday next week. That will be Courage’s last day at work before Christmas so it had better get done then. From Wednesday through to Sunday next week, right over the Christmas weekend, the wind is not expected to howl. It looks like Capetonians and all our visitors will enjoy calm weather, although I do see that we may have some cloud cover and maybe a little rain along the way.
Meanwhile, tomorrow, we are sure to be in for a treat as the Cape Point Challenge takes place. More than 130 surf-ski paddlers will race from Witsands (Scarborough) to Fish Hoek (34 miles / almost 55km) with the first ones leaving at 5:30am. The winners came in last year in 4 hours and the last took 6 hours, so by lunchtime, it will all be over. It does account for the large number of foreign vehicles driving round with surf skis on their roof.
I’ve done very little work today. It’s been glorious! Mike is taking this weekend off. Both days.
The bad news of the last 24 hours was a massive fire that swept through a chunk of our local informal settlement. Thousands of people are now without homes. An appeal has gone out and collections are being made at Living Hope, Kommetjie Rd.
If you can’t make physical donations, you can donate into the Living Hope bank account and allocate your donation to the Masi fire…
So devastating a week before Christmas.

If we love each other, God lives in us, and His love is brought to full expression in us.
The best is yet to come.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
