My Horrible Husband

Today Mike pulled a fast one on me. For ages the car has needed a wash, so today I thought it would be fun to go to the car-wash and do a drive through clean. It’s fast, it’s cheap and it’s effective.  Perfect for our needs. So I asked Mike if he wanted to come on a date with me. I didn’t tell him where. He looked at me suspiciously and said, “I don’t want to not know where I’m going. Just tell me.” So I did. “We’re going to go to the car wash,” I enthusiastically announced.

“No!” he even more emphatically said.

“It’s actually a very good idea to have the car washed, but I think we should do it ourselves!”

“What!!!?”

I hate washing the car.

He insisted – so while  I feverishly pulled weeds out of the front garden, he got everything set up for washing the car. He reminded me of our conversation a few days ago. We sit so much in front of our computers that when we need a break we should do something useful like some gardening – or washing the car!? +*^#@

So in the heat of the day, we washed the car….the enthusiastic car washer…yeah right.

The car is now sparkly clean. I even used a brush to clean the wheels. The fact that we did it together was helpful. And in the end we high fived and Mike made me coffee.

I did threaten him with the hosepipe though. Don’t give an annoyed woman a running hose – you stand in jeopardy of getting drenched. I was kind. I told him I would call this blog My Horrible Husband. Ha! Here comes the coffee. All is forgiven! 🙂

In Lady Anne Barnard’s journal, I chuckled last night. She diarised the 1st April 1797. She was told a massive whale had been harpooned and did she want to go and see it. Something made her suspicious – she then remembered the date and knew she was being April fooled. Someone contacted the ship’s two doctors and sent them rushing off to Lady Anne’s husband saying he was very ill only to find him fine. They were furious, so they decided to do some April fooling themselves. They sent a youngster off to one of the generals saying Lady Anne had asked for his white pants and shirt –  she wanted to cut a pattern from it as she thought it would be wonderful to wear in the heat. The General was incensed! Never before had anyone asked him such a thing! And so were the antics on board the ship on 1st April 1797!

Today is 15th August 2016. 8 years ago on 15/8/2008, my Dad slipped into eternity. Three weeks before he died, he prayed that he would never be completely debilitated and not able to help himself.  God honoured that prayer. He had a heart attack on about 13th August and died two days later. Some of his last words to his wife, my step-mother, were to tell the children that he loved us and he was ready to die.

While my Dad was somewhat eccentric, I will always be grateful that through my teen years, he loved and accepted me unconditionally and that he trusted me.

One day we will meet again!

John 14:2-3

“In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.”

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
