Today has been a good day with not too much work.

Mike met with Gareth who is one of the neighbours at Echo. He has a vacant plot behind our land (so higher up the mountain) but he has no road access. The lane down the right side of our plot ends at his so he has access from Echo Rd up to the bottom of his garden. First Gareth met with our builder, Werner and then he met with Mike. Mike showed him his suggestions for excavation of our common land and how the stairs and later the funicular will work. Gareth was sold! We are hoping he will use Werner and build first. It will be worth his house going up first and ours later. If Werner builds ours first, we will be in it when the lane is being used for access to his. We’d rather his house gets complete and then build hours. Besides, he has already paid scrutiny fees and work can already commence. This pushes our build back 6 months before commencement which is fine because the plans can now chug their way through Council and there is no pressure on us. This time next year, it may be near completion.  This is the plot behind…

Werner phoned after his meeting and said he had spoken to the area’s building inspector and he is happy for us to excavate more along the pavement outside the house, creating more parking. He said we can put round kerb stones for easier access on parking. We hope Werner will be able to start on that short project next week.

The neighbour who wants compensation is still getting his house appraised. He’s trying to find out how much sunshine he will lose due to our build and he’s trying to find out if the value of his house will decrease because of our build. I wrote to him and said we would consider contributing to a roof window in the back bedroom. He wrote back saying, “It is encouraging that both of us are looking at ways to reach an understanding on this.” I’m not sure how I feel about that. We are ready to walk away from him – let it be an objection. I promise, all of this is insignificant in the big scheme of things. Fast forward 10 years and it will all be forgot.

I got some work done, went to my ladies meeting and saw the first part of Priscilla Shirer’s One in a Million series which was excellent.

This evening, we walked to Harbour Bay again and once more the sea was spectacular with loads of paddle skiers.

It’s the last day of May. I will go to bed content tonight. I am grateful.

John 3:34

He is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives Him the Spirit without limit.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

Ok, about that. Today was such a beautiful day. Mike and I set off for a morning jawk at not long after 7am. We had a route, but then decided to go to the beach and back. When we got to the beach, we decided to go  up the steps and walk home via the mountainside. 300 steps later, we were finally on Ranger road and on our way home. 1 hour 38 minutes later we arrived home. Then this evening we walked 4.5km to Harbour Bay. Just for the record, I have walked 22370 steps today.
