Mopping the Kitchen Floor

Whenever I mop the kitchen floor I think of Oupes. Aunty Wyn and Oupes lived in Fish Hoek and for quite a number of years, every Thursday I would go and have lunch with them. Aunty Wyn and I would sit on her patio, surrounded by fuchsias and chat. She was a wonderful mentor and friend, spiritual adviser and prayer warrior. Oupes was her loving husband and great companion. One day I was there with Stacey and David. Aunty Wyn told Stacey she and David could have some of the orange juice in the fridge. Stacey opened the fridge and took out the bottle. It slipped out of her hands an onto the floor. The bottle broke and orange juice ran freely across the floor.

Stacey was mortified. Oupes came to the kitchen, viewed the mess and simply told her he had a new mop and he was dying to try it out. This was the perfect opportunity. So the squeegee went work and the floor was clean in no time. Mopping the kitchen floor today, I thought of Oupes. He responded with such grace. As we journey through life, we leave seeds. Little ways we impact people’s lives. Towards the end of his life, Oupes probably didn’t even remember that event, but I did. Give the gift of grace.

So today, I got to mop the kitchen floor! The house got cleaned and we had Peter and Riana over for Mike’s (now famous) spagbol.

The other main event of the day was another first for me.

I took a Pilates Class.

It was an hour of stretching muscles and ligaments I didn’t know I had.

I’ve been to some of the other classes like the aerobic and found them a bit overwhelming. This was quiet and controlled and slow. It doesn’t put your heart rate up a ton but does challenge your strength. I’ll definitely do that again. I think it is going to be one of my new regular classes along with the Thursday morning 90 minute cycle.

I also worked for just over an hour.

So all in all, a productive day!

John 14:10

“The words I say to you I do not speak on My own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in Me, who is doing His work.”

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
