Friday
Today I woke to a strange sound of someone quietly saying ‘shoo! shoo!’ I hopped out of bed to go and investigate. Julian was standing out on the stoep chasing away a deviant monkey who had the audacity to creep past Julian while he was reading, hop up on the kitchen counter and get stuck into our food. Julian had been sitting at a table on the stoep while this cunning chap very quietly snuck past him and in through the open door. He grabbed a banana, broke open an egg and tore a chunk off a loaf of bread before he was discovered. Julian had suddenly heard a sound in the kitchen and came inside to see who was up.
Not too much damage was done, but we certainly have been more cautious about these brazen creatures who are here in abundance.
As we were all up so early, 5 of us set off for a walk across the mountain top. It was wonderful.
It was to be the first of 3 walks. The second was a walk down to the hotel for a cappuccino. Mike walked half or more of the way back which was admirable as it was a very steep incline.
Then later this afternoon, Mike and I set off for Cleo’s Pool. We heard it was a round walk of 1 and a half hours so didn’t think it could be too bad.
After walking across the mountain top, we went down across a kloof, up the other side and then into some bush. The path was well-marked but the closer we got to the pool, the steeper and steeper it got. Eventually, we were on the final slope which was made up of a ladder of tyres down which we had to climb.
At the bottom was a river running into a pool. We stripped down to our costumes and got into what was very cold water. It was so refreshing.
Cleo’s Pool with a waterfall running into it…
On the way back, we passed a herd of zebra who pretty much ignored us.
What a wonderful day it has been. We walked, we ate, we slept and we read. Tonight we have enjoyed a braai.
Proverbs 29:11
Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you
