Drakensberg

Thursday

Today we woke early, packed and were in the car by about 6-15am. We left Johannesburg and headed south towards Durban, driving in convoy with Julian, Mike and I in one car, while Gerrie, Jess and David were in the other. We stopped for breakfast and then had another quick stop to pick up coffee round 2. Shortly before we arrived at our destination, we pulled into the Winterton Spar and stocked up with groceries.

We were last here in December 2013 and stayed at the Drakensberg Sun Hotel. To get to our self catering house, today, we passed that hotel and went right up the hill. When we were here 6 years ago we wondered what it would be like to stay in some of these houses. Now we know. Our house is very high up the mountain and very close to the hiking trails which we hope to try out tomorrow. This is the view of the Drakensberg Sun….

We hadn’t been at the house long, had unpacked and had some lunch, when we discovered we were being watched!

We certainly are going to have to keep the doors and windows closed. These fellows seem to know all the tricks.

After resting a while in this beautiful environment, Julian, Mike and I set off to explore. We walked up the road and then down a path onto a hiking trail and looped round back towards our house. We passed wildebeest, zebra and the baboon troop. Now we have our bearings, we are going to do a hike tomorrow that hopefully will take us to one of the local pools. It’s expected to be quite warm.

This evening, Mike made spaghetti and his famous sauce. Tomorrow is David and Julian’s turn and on Saturday night, the cooks will be Jess and Gerrie. Makes it fun dividing it up.

There is no internet here, but I picked up some air time and have been able to turn my cell phone into a hotspot and am putting the blog up that way. It’s very peaceful here.  We are 1480km from home.

I Corinthians 1:30

It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,
