Yesterday arrived as a beautiful sunny day and Mike left for work – his third last day. The highlight of the day – an hour of jubilation – Mike’s farewell tea. He did not want anything big, so a simple spread in his office boardroom was perfect. The eats looked yummy. About 50 staff came to say goodbye.
After the speeches, Mike received his certificate…
27 years – ….
He has worked hard. He was been committed. One of the biggest blessings in his life is his health…he has a full quota of sick leave available. 🙂
I didn’t speak, but if I had been asked to, this is what I would have said,
“27 years. So much has happened in that time. We bought our house and when our daughter was 3, we had a son. We have raised our children and educated them. We have said goodbye to all 4 of our parents and other close family members. We have witnessed the birth of an amazing radio station and been blessed by being involved in it. All through those 27 years, the one constant has been Mike getting up at the crack of dawn and going to the city. He has worked hard and done his best. You never know what goes on inside other people’s homes. Sometimes I wish you could be a fly on the wall in my home. You would witness Mike, a man of integrity, honesty, humility, love and deep faith. What you see is what you get. He’s a man of his word and I am the blessed recipient of his love. Mike & I are Christians and we believe that God is Author of our lives. He provided this job for Mike all those years ago. Everything we have comes from God. As we look back, we thank Him for all that He has given us and say, “The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy.”
I got a beautiful bunch of flowers as well.
So many people have asked me if he’s going to get under my feet when he retires.
NO.
I cannot wait for him to come home. It’s time.
It’s a new beginning.
New challenges, new adventures, new renovations, new dreams, new opportunities.
They all begin next month.
The best is yet to come!
I like to believe a Bible verse from deep in the Old Testament.
Haggai 2:9
“The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the LORD of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the LORD of hosts.’”
Yes please.
To God be the glory!
So this weekend is another busy one. Stacey and Adrian are here for the weekend. Tomorrow, I flit off to Durban for 24 hours. Back on Sunday – Mike’s birthday – in time for dinner with the family.
Monday is Mike’s last day!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
