Lost in Generations

When I think back to where I have come from, I don’t get very far. My parents were Derek and Elizabeth. My Grandparents on my Dad’s side I knew as Nan and Nan Dad – my Gran’s name was Sarah (I think) and my Grandfather was James. My Mom’s Mom, I knew as Mops – I could not tell you her proper name, but her surname  was Davies. My Mom’s Dad could have been Peter, but I’m not sure. Beyond that, I do not have a clue.

Pity.

Yet here I am made up of DNA that goes back to generations before – without them, I would not be who I am today. Nameless, faceless generations of people who were vitally important to my existence.

Because they were, I am.

And so it goes on. In a mere 100 years, my future generations will probably not know my name either. Yet they cannot exist without me.

It is because of this amazing legacy that our lives are not meaningless.

When you look in the all the unknown names in the Bible….a random selection from Genesis 10…

Genesis 10

A whole bunch of foreign names, who are recorded, but it was to be generations before their significance was discovered.

Peleg was the great, great, great grandfather of Abraham who was the father of the nation of Israel.

(Just to spell it out: Peleg was the father of Reu, who was the father of Serug, who was the father of Nahor, who was the father of Terah, who was the father of Abram.)

Peleg needed Eber and Shelah and all the others that went before. They all get credit for God’s use of Abraham.

It proves to me that each one of us is significant.

It may be in 6 generations time, when God uses your line or your adopted child or your influence on the next generation to raise up an individual or family or generation or nation that will carry His Name to the ends of the earth.

It’s not about now.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Keep praying for the generations to come!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx
