Longest Swim

Wednesday

Today was the day…

I completed the longest swim I’ve ever done! The day dawned with an amazing sunrise…

The sea was calm and still. No wind. It was spectacular. As I sat in my rocking chair, I watched a stand-up paddler paddling towards the big orange buoy which is a few hundred metres off from the Simon’s Town road coastline. He was coming from St. James. I saw him round the buoy and head on back. I was so impressed. All that paddling, but it was the perfect day for it. We had to go for a swim. As we walked down, I told Mike I was going to swim and swim and swim. The tide was high and there were no breakers. It meant I could swim in the shallows. Mike knew to look for me past the lighthouse. He set off for his run. I set off for my long swim. Mike eventually met up with me at the second entrance to the red roof housing complex. I told him I was going to swim to the end. He followed me, walking along the beach, keeping an eye on me. I got to the  Clovelly end and touched a rock, then turned around and started back. It took a bit of time, but I did it! I swam from Fish Hoek to Clovelly – almost 3.5km on my swimming watch. I so enjoyed it, but it did challenge me. One hour and 22 minutes of swimming.

There are so few days suitable to do this.  With more sharks around (albeit Bronzies), conditions have to be perfect – today was it. It was helpful having Mike keeping an eye on me. The wind has picked up now, but I’ll always have this one day when I swam to the end of the beach and back. I never thought it would happen this year.

I worked about 6 hours. It’s been a satisfying day.

Isaiah 14:24

The Lord Almighty has sworn, “Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will happen.”

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
