I’m writing this in darkness! At least my laptop has plenty of battery.
We are loadshedding schedule 3B or something like that. For us in region 8 it means yesterday and today, the power was off from 10am to 12-30pm and then again from 6pm to 8-30pm. While yesterday, I took advantage of the early one and prepared all my tax paperwork, the later one threw my entire routine. As the sun set, I got dozier and dozier until eventually, I couldn’t keep my eyes open and by 8pm I was asleep. When the power came back on again, I was too sleepy to properly wake up so carried on sleeping for another hour or two. When I did wake up, I couldn’t go back to sleep so ended up being awake until midnight. I slept well but woke up with a start at 6-15am. No time for coffee, I went to gym and was there just before 6-30. Having not eaten since 6pm last night, I had no energy. The lack of caffeine didn’t help. My legs felt like concrete. Every step was a chore. I laboured through 5km and then dawdled through 15 minutes of cycling and an hour in, I called it a day.
That first cup of coffee was wonderful. I rested and started work at 9am. One hour and then the power went off again. Fortunately, I didn’t have too much work to do and could take it easy for a couple of hours before working all afternoon. In the end I did about 5 and a half hours work today.
To try to off-set the sleepiness that comes with no lights, Mike and I walked to the Mall at 6pm. On our return, I did a Sudoku while it was still light and now I’m writing up the blog.
But this can’t be easy for business. Tomorrow, it’s due off at 8am, so I’ll have a late work start. It’s also due off at 4pm, so I’ll need to prepare for that eventuality.
I think it will come on in the next few minutes. We are so technical you would have thought we would be more organised than this! Stacey and Adrian hardly notice when there is loadshedding. Their solar immediately kicks in. We need to get our act together, but it’s never been as bad as this, to be sure. Mike wants to go and buy a UPS. I guess that will be the right place to start.
As soon as the lights come on, I’m going onto Facebook and see if there is an update for Kiara Mun-Gavin. She’s the young girl who was seriously injured in a car accident on Christmas Eve. After a miraculous recovery, today she underwent reconstructive surgery to put back a large piece of her skull. I have been thinking of her so much today and pray all went well.
And there was light!
Let me just wait for the internet to connect. There we go. And here’s the Kiara Update…Praise the Lord…
Her Mom’s blog was particularly poignant today…
And so the day ends. Light at our house and light at the end of the tunnel of the Mun-Gavin’s. Kiara is alive and fighting…It is not by accident that this verse appears printed in my diary for 12/2/2019. A verse for Kiara.
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.
Kiara is God’s masterpiece. He has created her anew in Christ Jesus, so she can do the good things He planned for her long ago.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
