Living With A Limited Income & Uncertain Future…

12-48pm

Today I went to a supermarket I seldom go to. The branch in Fish Hoek is generally crowded & I find it disorganised, so it went against the grain for me to pull into that one and pick up some shopping. But that I did and on my shopping trip, I encountered a fellow shopper called Love. Here she is with her almost 2 year old daughter Zipporah…

Love and ZipporahWe started speaking at the till and I ended up giving her a lift home. She lives in Masiphumulele. It turns out it’s cheaper to catch a taxi to Fish Hoek from Masi to buy nappies than to buy them at any of the closer shops. Here is a lady who is joyful despite unemployment, a very limited income and uncertain future. She arrived from Malawi three months ago. She ministered to my heart by singing to me on the way home. In her broken English, I picked up “When the fire came down, He sanctified my soul” and then she broke into a big praise song, explaining how much she loves God because He answered her prayer. She took me to her tiny home, one room in vibrant, swarming Masi and explained 4 of them live there. The room was clean and tidy. She said it’s fine today, but when the rain comes, it’s like a swimming pool!

Masi on a sunny dayI said goodbye and as I drove away, I was reminded of Paul’s words (Philippians 4:11-13)

Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

The secret lies in verse 13 – I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.  Next time you are feeling out of your depth and waves of discontentment overwhelm your mind and soul, ask God to strengthen you  – you will be amazed to find contentment amidst whatever situation you face.

I may have helped Love out a bit, but she did more for me than I did for her.

That’s how God works.

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
