Learning From Others

Today saw me at the gym walking for 25 minutes before doing the gruelling Grid! I was well entertained on the treadmill. I was watching the swimmers. I have been reading up on swimming techniques….what proper swimming looks like. The other day when I was swimming, I counted how many strokes it took me to get from one end of the pool to the other. It was a pitiful 36. I watched some of the pros. They took 20 strokes, sometimes less. What?! Then I saw a lady and thought “Aha! She looks like me – maybe a bit older.” So I started timing her lengths and counting her strokes. Yes! She took about 40 seconds for a length and 40 strokes. You can learn a lot from others. Those who swim beautifully have a number of consistent factors – they have good pool posture. Bad posture out the pool can translate into bad posture in the pool. I have to learn to swim with my shoulders back. I saw a really good picture of four simple posture exercises. They are good for shoulder pain as well. You don’t need to bend your knees. They are called YTWL for the shape of each exercise. Very easy to do.

So I’ve been doing some of those.

Good posture is one.  The the best swimmers rotate their torso as they swim. They keep their heads still. They bend their elbows and reach far, but their hands don’t cross the midline.

Crazy that watching swimming could take up all 25 minutes of my walking head space. The time went by super fast. I learned a lot from watching others.

Today has been hot! This was in Steenberg area.

Back in Fish Hoek it was in the late 20s, although it is feeling quite humid.

Today Mike went for a check up. The doctor is very happy with his eye. He sent me the before and after photos. Mike’s vision is 95%

We still carry on the regimen. He has another injection next week, then again in 6 weeks time. Then 8 weeks. Eventually, it will be every 4 months before the injection is discontinued. Dr. Lapere is great. He was really happy with the progress and so are we. Praise the Lord.

#562 of my 1000 thanks is for another successful eye exam. We are so grateful for medical aid.

May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
