LCHF – Day 21 – What Foods Are LCHF?

1-01pm

For three weeks I have had no sugar, no bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, no overt carbohydrates, no chocolate at all! ๐Ÿ™‚ What is amazing is that I’m not craving it.ย  What is surprising, is that I’m not losing weight either! I lost about 1.5kg in the first week and soon after gained it again andย  settled at 70kg. The scale seems to be glancing at 69kg (hopeful look! :-)). Three weeks ago when we had Prof Tim Noakes in the Rise and Shine studio, I specifically asked him if we were doing this to ‘lose weight or be healthy?’ He replied ‘be healthy!’ I have noticed several changes. The most significant is that my memory is better! How do I know? Well every day when I’m plotting music for Rise and Shine, I simultaneously type the song details up on a table for putting online. I listen to the song and while I have the song blaring in my headphones and the lyrics spinning through my brain, I’m trying to remember the name of the song, the artist and the album, without going back to the library screen to check. Before I started LCHF, I was going back probably about 70% of the time. Now I am only going back about 30% of the time! Prior to LCHF, I had more headaches. I suddenly realised the other day, I haven’t had a headache for weeks! Some months ago I was treated for a possible ‘early stomach ulcer’. The pain went away with the treatment, but came back to a lesser degree after it. A slight twinge here and there. Since LCHF, it’s gone! I’m clear-headed and full of energy!ย  So, next week, when I am due to end (at 27 days), I think I will make it my lifestyle, and just see what happens as far as my weight goes.ย  I would like to get rid of about 5kg…the last 5… they are always the hardest. Mike & I have been getting into running again. It’s quite fun both of us being so hopelessly unfit and trying to get fit again. Saturday and yesterday, saw us run along the Simonstown Rd and then have a dip in the sea at Fish Hoek. ๐Ÿ™‚ Nothing like it!

As far as food, goes, this is breakfast…

I usually have a mixture of strawberries, blueberries & raspberries. It’s the only fruit I have and it’s accompanied, generously with this…

I love the stuff. I also will put in a dash of this…

…which I also have in my coffee. Sometimes, I will thrown in some of these for breakfast as well…(go for the raw ones)

Almonds

That’s breakfast at 5-30am. With all the fat from the cream and yoghurt and nuts when they are there, this will satisfy me until lunchtime. For lunch, I snack….

Kudu Biltong

…or I may have one of these…

Avos

Today, for fun, I had this…

Tossed salad and scrambled eggs (sung to the signature tune of Frazier)

Dinner will be fish and veggies or meat and salad or just a chicken salad. Usually the salad is Greek, with olives and feta cheese! ๐Ÿ™‚ (and now that they are in season – avocado). I was eating marscapone cheese, but found it to be too rich for me.

I don’t miss cake, but I do miss fruit! Other things that fit the LCHF profile are tuna, sardines,ย  all meat, like chicken, beef, bacon and other pork, lamb, ostrich etc. I have beetroot, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, a bit of butternut,ย  beans, sunflower & pumpkin seeds. There is plenty to keep you satisfied.

I drink to thirst and usually have about 5 or 6 glasses of water a day.

So that’s it. I’ll have the opportunity to chat to Tim Noakes on air again next Tuesday between 7 & 8am! 107.5 CCFm Cape Town wide; 96.7 in the Fish Hoek Valley and www.ccfm.org.za on the world wide web!

For the rest of this morning, sunrise was spectacular…

Not long after I got out the studio, we were told a car was on fire on Boyes Drive, right above CCFm, so we all rushed out onto the balcony to have a look. By the time we got there, the fire brigade had extinguished the flames and there was not much to be seen. I went home over Boyes Drive and THEN I saw the damage…

Completely gutted car on Boyes Drive

I wondered how it started. It’s always interesting to see what the fire doesn’t burn.

1 Corinthians 3:13 “His work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work.”

Interesting Bible verse. We will be called to account one day.

Make the most of every moment.

God bless!

In His Grip,

Helga xx ๐Ÿ™‚
