LCHF – Day 10 – The Downside of LCHF….

2-40pm

When I climbed on the scale this morning, I had lost half a kilogram. So just to trace my weight: I was down to about 68kg at the end of last year. I went off My Fitness Pal, (tracking my calories), and gradually crept up over several months to 72kg. I felt fat and flabby and out of control. At the beginning of September, (prior to thinking of LCHF), I wrote in my diary that my goal for the month was to fill in myfitnesspal.com every day for the month, regardless of what I ate. I did that and by the end of the month I had come down to 70kg. I didn’t lose any more, although the trend was downward…when I climbed on the scale, it was trying to be 69.75kg!  🙂 I know you understand! Then I started LCHF and dropped to 69kg, in just a few days. I thought I would be 2kg less after a week, but I wasn’t. I hung around 69kg. Despite that, my clothes have felt a lot looser and I’ve definitely lost inches round my stomach.  I still am logging my calories at MFP… and I’ve opened it up for all to see, so if you want to snoop around what I’ve eaten, click on the My Fitness Pal link on this page! It may make for interesting reading! Nothing sacred, let me tell you!

It’s all been good but the downside (for me) of LCHF, is this…

I am  regularly using double cream yoghurt for breakfast; having marscapone cheese for ‘dessert’ and a lot of other full cream yummy things, but when I put cream neat in my coffee…BLUGH!  It just doesn’t ‘gel’ with me…I get this instant post-nasal drip kind of thing going on, with a cough.  I’ve never noticed it before, but then I was only having it from time to time and not three times a day! That’s the only downside I can think of right now!

Last night I read up about high fat eating and the brain and was really interested to see how good it is for mental health. It reduces depression and helps stabilize many psychiatric disorders. It’s worth investigating.

Day 10 for me today – lots of energy, not feeling deprived at all, no cravings – generally, all good, except the cream issue!

I found “Oopsie Bread” online(no carb at all!) and decided to make it…

Take 3 large egg yolks and mix with about a third of a 250g tub of cream cheese…

To the 3 egg whites, add a pinch of cream of tartar (I didn’t have any of this so used baking powder) and beat until stiff…

Fold whites into yolks.  Put wax paper on a baking sheet and you can either scoop tablespoons of individual rounds of the mixture onto the pan or do what I did…I just poured the whole lot on and cut it up afterwards. I sprinkled it with sesame seeds and voila…

It’s not strong enough for a pizza base, but I looked online and found a few variations using almond flour and oil and egg which would work well as a ‘carb free’ pizza base.  I spread macadamia nut butter (as opposed to peanut butter) on it and gave it to David as a high protein study snack. He liked it. I thought it was quite good too. It was surprisingly un-eggy tasting!…not like an omelette.  Mike wasn’t wild about it!

We have had a really chilled day. We got up round 7 and went for a gentle 3km jog, showered and went out for breakfast. Then we trawled the mall, stopping to say hello to one of the ‘ignored’ people! This is Annette, trying very hard to raise money for National Child Crisis and Disabled children…

She’s been doing this for 8 years. If you ever see her, drop a few coins in her tin!

Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”

Keep going!

Mike went to see his Mom (aka Granny) and took her for a little ride in a wheelchair. He also tried to get her to walk and was able to see how frail she has become. She won’t be able to get out of bed on her own. We will bring her home next Thursday and see how we cope! One day at a time…

Rugby soon! WP! WP! WP! 🙂

Have a fabulous weekend.

In His Grip,

Helga x 🙂
