What a moment!! Five gruelling sets between John Isner and Kevin Anderson in the longest Wimbledon semi-final ever recorded. It finally ended after more than 6.5 hours. Anderson won 7-6, 6-7,6-7,6-4 and the final set a whopping 26-24. He’s the first South African through to the Wimbledon Men’s final since Brian Norton in 1921. Kevin Curren played in 1985 but he had become an American by then.
Side note: Brian Norton played in the Wimbledon men’s final in 1921 against American Bill Tilden and lost. Two years later he partnered with Bill Tilden and together they won the Wimbledon Doubles Finals. Brian Norton died young – he was born on Robben Island in 1899 and died at the age of 56. I couldn’t find what caused his death.
Our lives are journeys and this is certainly an exciting one for Kevin Anderson!
What a match. Kevin will play either Djokovic or Nadal who are playing now.
About half way through the match, Mike and I decided to go for a walk. One of the joys of today and #721 of my 1000 thanks is for puddles! Puddles and puddles of water from the rain. As we got about half way round our regular walk route we got to the Sun Valley pond which is looking a lot healthier…
A few seconds after admiring it, it began to rain. We got caught in the shower and ended up running most of the way home! It is cold tonight!
Deuteronomy 31:8
Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you.
And that is your encouragement for the day!
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
