We all have at some time been in a pit. It’s a dark, depressing place and often times hope oozes out of us and despair takes over. It’s that sinking feeling of misery where we feel sad and lonely and hopeless.
Someone, many years ago, wrote a lengthy analogy of being in a pit. The oldest version I can find was from this website – Sacred Texts. Over the years the story was shortened and in many ways simplified. In church on Sunday, we heard John Maxwell end his message with it. My friend, Jo, tracked down his version and posted it on Facebook…
Jesus, seeing the man, knelt down and lifted him out of the pit.
I’ve known Jesus do that with me. He met me at the point of my despair and reached down to pull me out.
My deepest bit was more than 30 years ago. Today, I am so grateful that He took me out of the miry clay and set my feel upon a rock and established my steps.
I identify.
It was misery being in the pit. At the time, it was almost impossible to see anything good coming out of the pit, but in hindsight, I can see the circumstances surrounding the pit were for my benefit. Without the pit, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
To God be the glory for my pit.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
