Looking For GOOD News

Today I had my car serviced, which turned out to be a pretty painless exercise. I was first in the queue (that’s the trick) – I got to the service centre at 7am and they only open at 7-30am. They phoned me at 10am which was perfect as I had been out with a friend and just arrived back at the coffee shop across the road. By 11am, I was turning into my street and that was where saw where some of my tax money was going! They were fixing potholes in my street…

Our street being fixedI had wondered if they were ever going to fix them, so today I was highly impressed!

I set about looking for other good news. I’d heard the other day that Eskom was coming right. They had managed to get one lot of maintenance done without load shedding and some other long awaited electricity unit is now up and running. That’s good news and accounts for this happy online announcement which hasn’t changed in a few weeks.

Loadshedding

I struggled to find other good news in the media. It all seems doom and gloom.

But all of these things are temporary. My street will fall apart again and who knows what will become of the electricity of the future. It’s not permanent. Nothing is except us. We hang around on the planet a bit and then we die.

My belief is that life continues after we breathe our last. Then true eternal life begins.

Trying to see the bigger picture is one of the hardest things in life – and it takes the most faith. Seeing beyond 2015 and imagining 2115, when I know I won’t be here makes me arrive at the conclusion that the multitude of bad news that we see today is going to pass.

It makes me not sweat the small stuff.

Circumstances that are overwhelmingly bad today will fade in the years to come. We feel them intensely now – that’s normal. We are human, but in half a decade from today, the sting of the pain will lessen and we will be dealing with other issues.

It brings me back to today.

The car got serviced and the street got repaired.

My home internet was down and so I couldn’t work. I ended up coming to the home of the same friend who fished me out of car service centre so I wouldn’t have to sit there for 3 hours. That’s where I sit right now, wrapping up the blog.  Thanks Riana for your blisteringly fast internet connection!

In order to stay happy, focus on the good things in life. Be appreciative of those things that go well.

Rejoice in the fact that we can have a relationship with our Creator who holds all things in His hands. One day, any pain or suffering we have to endure this side of eternity will be over and our eternal destiny comes with no more tears, or suffering, or pain, anxieties or worry.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

That’s really the good news.

Keep the smile going!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
