It’s How We Are Made

Last night as I sat on the plane on the tarmac at OR Tambo airport and the its engines roared and it began to race down the runway, I prayed a little prayer for safety.

As I did so, a few thoughts went through my mind. One was that there are so few plane crashes considering how many planes take off. The second thought was that I can never say it will never happen to me. The third was that if I died in an aeroplane crash it would be moments of terror, but I would be okay.  I believe in eternal life and that heaven is real and I will just rush out of this life and into the next in a completely unexpected manner.

But the thought was still pretty terrifying.

I marvelled at how God has made us in such a way that we cling to the life we know. We try not to let it go – every fibre in our being tries to live longer.  It’s how we are made.

It is my spiritual component that calms my nerves and reminds me of the life after this one – where there is no pain or suffering – no wars – no dreadful power struggles or political wranglings – no terror – no anger – no frustration – no anguish.

Just peace.

And love.

And God is there and Jesus.

And many millions of people who have gone before.

All party to our arrival.

We don’t really know what goes on in the spiritual realm, but what we do know is that there is a spiritual realm. One of the things I wonder I may do after I die is to be able to fly across the world and position myself on the tops of trees or mountains and just admire all the creation that God has made.

That sounds pretty cool.

Believing in eternal life give direction to my current life here on earth. We know God is watching and the Bible says there is a great cloud of witnesses as well.

Hebrews 12:1-2

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith…”

I like that.

A call for endurance. Keep going, fixing our eyes on Jesus.

#56 of my 1000 thanks is gratitude for the load of laundry I got to do this morning. My travel worn clothes are flapping in the wind.

#57 of my 1000 thanks is that I see my Facebook Like button is back. I don’t know why it disappeared.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
